Announced that Aleksander Ilyukhin, pastry-chef
of bakery chain “Le Khleb”, won Russian finals of
the World Chocolate Masters, a top-level competition for chocolate
craftsmen from all over the world. Aleksander beat
out 8 other pastry chefs and chocolatiers from some of the
country’s leading restaurants and hotels.

Masters were held in Chocolate Academy of Barry Callebaut
Russia in Chekhov on March 21-22, 2011. The competition was
sponsored by Barry Callebaut and its Chocolate
Academy; as well as Robot Coupe and
Kitchen Aid.
As part of the competition, each participant created a large
chocolate sculpture that conveyed the theme of this year’s
competition – “Cocoa, Quetzalcoatle’s Gift” –
using professional gourmet chocolate brands
Callebaut, Cacao Barry, and
Carma and the aesthetics of distant history of
ancient Aztec Civilization. They also showcased
their skills by creating chocolate pastries, pralines, and a
chocolate gastronomic dessert made from special ingredients that
were revealed to the contestants only a few minutes before the
start of the competition.
The winner of Russian finals of the World Chocolate
Masters will be named “Russian National Chocolate
Master 2011” and will represent Russia at the World
Chocolate Masters competition in Paris, where he will compete
against representatives from 19 other countries, including Belgium,
France, Switzerland, China, Australia and Brazil.
