Situation Japan after earthquake
03.03.11
Mr. Uezaki’s shop is located in Mito-City, (Ibaraki prefecture), one of the areas hit by the earthquake on 11th March 2011. His shop is not situated close to the sea, so fortunately they didn’t experienced the Tsunami, but the earthquake was big.
Roads are cracked, walls are broken, highway roads are undulating,… Also transportation was down. Railway was out of service until 1st April and there is still no express train service in some areas.
The shop is not seriously damaged, but inside the kitchen it was a total mess. However, Mr. Uezaki found his oven was still working once the electricity was working again. He and his staff tried to bake simple pancakes with their remaining ingredients and just handed out to people around.
As various industrial factories were also seriously damaged, fresh ingredients such as milk, cream were no longer available due to shortage of ingredients or packaging material and lack of transportation services.
For the moment the situation is getting better gradually. Mr. Uezaki is getting back to operate his shop as usual, and customers come back to buy their sweets! His shop is actually very popular in this area.
Unfortunately some of his employees have left the shop because of the earthquake and he has to cover the lack of manpower with other 17 Chefs. Staff is getting together to take over this difficult situation and let Mr. Uezaki prepare for his biggest ever challenge toward WCM world final in Paris in October.
